The applications Auri AI and Auri Voice (together, the “App”) are provided by Upstate Media Inc. (the “Company”).
We respect and protect the privacy of our App users. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect and use your information and is part of our Terms of Use when you use our App. Auri Voice is covered in the Auri Voice section below.
By using our App and the service provided via the App (“Service”), you consent to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use our App.
We do not track what you type in any way; we do not sell your data; if you use AI features, the message text you submit is sent to third-party AI providers (such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Microsoft Azure, and xAI) solely to generate a response — no personal identifiers (name, email, IP address, device ID) are included in these requests, and all data is encrypted in transit; we may use your email address to contact you; if you delete your account, all your data will be erased.
Auri Voice: by default, transcription, audio processing, and AI text improvement run entirely on your device, and we collect none of that data. If you opt into a cloud model, the request is encrypted, is not retained, and is not used for training. Details are in the Auri Voice section below.
This section applies to Auri Voice, our voice-typing app for Mac (including companion apps on iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch). Privacy is the point of this app. We do not need your audio, transcripts, or writing, and we do not collect them. Where this section conflicts with other parts of this Privacy Policy, this section controls for Auri Voice.
Auri Voice defaults to fully private, on-device operation. Transcription, audio processing, and AI text improvement all run on your device. No audio, transcripts, or generated text leave your Mac, and we collect none of that data.
If you keep a history, it is stored on your Mac. Audio history is off by default and stays local if you enable it. Audio from Apple Watch to Mac is encrypted in transit and transcribed locally on your Mac.
If you select a cloud speech engine or a cloud AI model, the data required for that request is transmitted to the provider you chose. That transmission is encrypted in transit. We do not retain the data, and it is not used to train any models.
You can use Auri Voice without ever enabling a cloud model.
If you create an account, we receive only the email address you provide, so we can identify your account. If you sign up with Apple and hide your email, we receive Apple’s anonymized relay address instead of your personal email.
We collect fully anonymized and aggregated crash data so we can find and fix bugs. These reports do not include your audio, transcripts, or other user-generated content.
If you contact us for help, we may receive debug data so we can identify and fix the issue. That debug data never includes your audio, transcripts, or other user-generated content.
The following applies to Auri AI. Billing through Apple also applies to Auri Voice subscriptions. For everything else about Auri Voice, see the Auri Voice section above.
If you make in-App purchases or buy a subscription, our third-party billing service providers (Apple, Google, and Stripe) will collect information such as your full name, credit card number, and billing address.
If you create an account, we will use the email address you provide to create a unique account for you.
We will use this email address to communicate with you about your account, as well as to send you any important information or updates about our service. We will not share your email address with third parties.
If you email us, we may use your email address to reply to your email.
If you create notes or initiate any in-app chats, your text data is encrypted and stored so that it is inaccessible by anyone but you.
AI Feature Usage. If you choose to use AI-powered features (such as AI Chat, AI Writing Assistant, or AI Keyboard suggestions), the message text or prompt you submit is sent to a third-party AI service to generate a response. We do not include any personal identifiers — such as your name, email address, IP address, or device identifier — in the data sent to these AI providers. The content is encrypted in transit using industry-standard TLS encryption. For details on which providers we use and how your data is protected, see the Third-Party AI Services section below.
Information Sent by Your Mobile Device. We collect certain information that your mobile device sends when you use our App, like a device identifier, user settings and the operating system of your device, as well as information about your use of our Services.
Location Information. When you use our App, we may collect and store information about your location by converting your IP address into a rough geo-location or by accessing your mobile device’s GPS coordinates or coarse location if you enable location services on your device. We may use location information to improve and personalize our Services for you. If you do not want us to collect location information, you may disable that feature on your mobile device.
Your information may be stored in our own servers or in servers owned by third-party cloud storage providers.
Third-party storage providers may not use your information except as provided in this Privacy Policy.
Information we collect from you might be used:
To communicate with you or third parties
To process your requests and transactions
To provide you with the Service, including sending message text to third-party AI providers when you use AI features (see Third-Party AI Services below)
To improve our App and the Service
To perform marketing activities
To respond to your messages and comments
For other purposes related to our business
Auri AI integrates with third-party artificial intelligence services to power its AI features (including AI Chat, AI Writing Assistant, and AI Keyboard suggestions). This section explains what data is sent, who receives it, and how it is protected. For Auri Voice cloud models, see the Auri Voice section above.
When you use an AI-powered feature, only the message text or prompt you submit is sent to the third-party AI provider for the sole purpose of generating a response. We do not send any personally identifiable information such as your name, email address, IP address, device identifier, or account information alongside your request.
We currently use the following third-party AI providers:
OpenAI — Privacy Policy
Anthropic — Privacy Policy
Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service — Privacy Policy
xAI — Privacy Policy
In addition, certain AI features may be powered by proprietary models developed and hosted by the Company. Data processed by our own models is handled entirely on our infrastructure and is subject to this Privacy Policy.
We may add or change AI providers in the future. Any new provider will be held to the same data-protection standards described here, and this policy will be updated accordingly.
All data transmitted to third-party AI providers is encrypted in transit using industry-standard TLS encryption. Our agreements with these providers require that they:
Process data only to fulfill the request and return a response
Do not use your data to train or improve their models
Do not sell, share, or disclose your data to any other third party
Provide the same or equivalent level of data protection as described in this Privacy Policy
By creating an account and accepting the Terms of Use and this Privacy Policy, you consent to the processing of your message text by the third-party AI providers listed above. AI functionality is a core feature of the App, and use of the App involves the transmission of message text to these providers as described in this section. If you do not agree to this processing, please do not use the App. You may withdraw your consent at any time by deleting your account.
We do not authorize any third-party AI provider to retain your data beyond what is necessary to process and return a response. For specific retention practices, please refer to the privacy policies of the respective providers linked above.
We intend to store some of your information indefinitely.
If you delete your account, all your data will be deleted as well.
We may provide links to or compatibility with other websites. However, we’re not responsible for the privacy practices employed by those websites or the information or content they contain.
We use appropriate physical, electronic, and other procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect. However, please be aware that the Internet is an inherently unsafe environment, and that hackers are constantly working to defeat security measures.
Thus, we cannot guarantee that your information will not be accessed, disclosed, altered or destroyed, and you accept this risk.
We urge you to take steps to keep your personal information safe by not sharing it with others or posting it online.
We do not collect, sell, trade, or otherwise transfer to outside parties your Personally Identifiable Information (PII) for commercial or marketing purposes, except as stated herein.
Personal information (and non-personal information) collected through the Site may be shared with companies and organizations that perform services on our behalf (for example, companies that provide data management or other support services to us such as data storage and Web hosting services). We may share your personal information (and non-personal information) with third parties to serve you relevant advertising and market our products, but we won’t sell your personal information.
Third-Party AI Providers. When you use AI features, only the message text you submit is sent to our third-party AI providers (currently OpenAI, Anthropic, Microsoft Azure, and xAI) or processed by our own proprietary models. No personal identifiers are included. These providers are contractually prohibited from using your data for any purpose other than generating a response, and they are required to provide the same or equivalent level of data protection as described in this Privacy Policy. See the Third-Party AI Services section above for full details.
Information Disclosed in Connection with Business Transactions. If we are acquired by a third party as a result of a transaction such as a merger, acquisition or asset sale or if our assets are acquired by a third party in the event we go out of business or enter bankruptcy, some or all of our assets, including your PII, may be disclosed or transferred to a third-party acquirer in connection with the transaction.
Information Disclosed for Our Protection and the Protection of Others. We cooperate with government and law enforcement officials or private parties to enforce and comply with the law. We may disclose any information about you to government or law enforcement officials or private parties as we, in our sole discretion, believe necessary or appropriate: (i) to respond to claims, legal process (including subpoenas); (ii) to protect our property, rights and safety and the property, rights, and safety of a third party or the public in general; and (iii) to stop any activity that we consider illegal, unethical or legally actionable activity.
Our App and Service are not intended for children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly or specifically collect information from or about children under the age of 16.
If we decide to change our Privacy Policy, we will post those changes on this page. We may also, but are not required to, send you an email notification. We encourage you to review this privacy policy frequently to be informed of how we are protecting your information.
If you have questions about our Privacy Policy, please contact us at [email protected].
