Auri Chat on iPhone: Visual, Interactive Answers

When Chat is the right surface

The keyboard is for finishing text where you already are. Chat is for work that needs a conversation, a structure, or a screen you can navigate.

• Turn a vague idea into a plan with steps you can check off.
• Compare options in a table you can scan instead of re-reading a paragraph.
• Review a draft with the Content Editor type, then paste the result where it goes.
• Ask questions about an attached PDF without leaving the app.

The rule of thumb is what you do next. When the next action is sending a sentence, stay in the keyboard. When the next action is working something out, open Chat.

Chat types and engines

Two pickers shape a reply more than any clever prompt does.

1. Type. The persona picker, labeled Type, holds 16 options: Friendly Assistant, Content Editor, Programmer, Language Tutor, Stoic Philosopher, Travel Assistant, Mental Health Advisor, and nine more. Use a specialist when the job is narrow (Content Editor for tightening prose, Language Tutor for practice) and Friendly Assistant while you are still exploring.
2. Engine. Four ship in the app. Fast is the everyday default; the app describes it as "fast, clean answers for everyday chats." Reasoning and Sonnet think longer and need Pro. Visual builds "interactive visual answers with live data, images, and follow-ups," and everyone gets 2 of those a day free.

A weak answer is often the wrong Type or the wrong engine. Change one of them before you rewrite the question a fourth time.

What the Visual engine returns

Ask Fast to plan a four-day Lisbon trip and you get paragraphs. Ask Visual and the same question comes back as screens: a day-by-day plan with steps, a budget table, stat cards for the totals, and tappable follow-ups such as swapping a day or cutting the budget, so refining the answer is a tap instead of a typed prompt.

Visual renders steps, comparisons, charts, tables, forms, and stat cards. Use it whenever you would otherwise type "make me a table" or "give me steps." For short factual questions, Fast is quicker and does not spend one of Visual's 2 free daily answers.

Memory, voice, and documents

Three extras make Chat useful day to day.

• Memory. The toggle lives at Settings > Chat > Chat Memory, next to Clear Chat Memory, which the app explains plainly: "This removes saved memories used across chats. Your chat history stays intact." One honest note: chat memory is stored with your signed-in Auri account, not in iCloud. Turn it off when a topic should not follow you.
• Voice. Speak the question instead of typing it. The ask does not need to be tidy; say it, read it, send it.
• Documents. The paperclip offers Scan a document, Attach a document (PDF or Word), or a picture. Auri then answers from the file: a summary, a quote, a checklist. Chatting with PDF and Word files needs Pro and caps at 100 pages.

Chat also generates images (3 free in total, 7 a day on Pro) and can save an answer as a file: PDF, CSV, TXT, Markdown, or JSON, once a day on the free plan. Treat both as drafts you check before sharing.

A five-minute first run

1. Open Auri and go to Chat.
2. Pick the Type that matches the job, not the default out of habit.
3. Switch the engine to Visual.
4. Ask for something structured: a weekly plan, a product comparison, a trip.
5. Tap through the answer, then use a follow-up to change one constraint.

If the Visual answer is clearer than a wall of text would have been, keep Visual for planning work and leave Fast for short Q&A. A follow-up that changes one variable beats opening a fresh conversation that has to relearn everything.

Privacy and product boundaries

Chat runs on the network. That is separate from keyboard Full Access, and separate again from Auri Voice on Mac, which transcribes on the Mac by default.

• Do not paste secrets into Chat that you would not paste into another cloud assistant.
• Turn Chat Memory off when the topic is sensitive or temporary; Clear Chat Memory removes what is already saved.
• For private English transcription on the phone, switch the transcription engine to On-Device. It is English-only.

The three surfaces carry the same brand and run different pipelines, so pick the one that matches both the job and the sensitivity of the text.

When Chat is the wrong tool

Chat is a conversation surface, and some jobs are worse for being conversational.

• A quick reply in another app. Switching to Auri and back costs more than the keyboard tools would have.
• A document you need to keep and edit. That belongs in Smart Notes, where it saves and syncs.
• Anything with facts you cannot check. Dates, prices, and legal or medical specifics still need a source, and an interactive layout can make a wrong number look more official than it is.
• Confidential material. Chat runs on the network, so treat it like any other cloud assistant.

Used for the right jobs, Chat removes the loop where you leave your phone, open a browser, paste something in, and come back.
