Auri Smart Notes: Voice, Transcripts, and AI Transforms

Answer first

Smart Notes inside Auri AI Keyboard & Assistant combine Markdown text notes with voice memos. Record, get a transcript, then transform it: Clean Up & Format, Short or Detailed Summary, Meeting Notes, Podcast Notes, Brain Dump Notes, To-Do List, College Essay, Blog Post, Translate, or Paraphrase. You can also write Markdown notes with photos, tables, and to-dos, run AI writing tools on the text, export to common formats, and sync across Apple devices. YouTube video transcription is supported for material you want as text first.

Two capture modes, one note

Smart Notes is built for people who sometimes type and sometimes talk, and who do not want those drafts living in three apps.

  • Text. Markdown notes with photos, tables, and to-do lists in the same document. Color tags for organization. AI writing tools on the selection: grammar, Help Me Write, Continue Writing, Translate, Summarize, Paraphrase.
  • Voice. Hit record, talk, get a transcript, then choose a transform. The transcript is the source of truth; the transform is a disposable view until you keep it.

Keep the raw take when the wording matters. Keep the transform when the job is a summary, a checklist, or a first essay draft.

The transform menu, by job

After a transcript lands, pick the output that matches why you recorded. Do not run every option.

TransformUse when
Clean Up & FormatThe words are right; the transcript is messy
Short SummaryYou need the point in a few lines
Detailed SummaryYou need coverage without replaying the audio
Meeting NotesDecisions, owners, and follow-ups matter
Podcast NotesYou are extracting structure from long talk audio
Brain Dump NotesThe recording was unstructured on purpose
To-Do ListYou spoke actions and want a checklist
College Essay / Blog PostYou need a first draft in a known shape
Translate / ParaphraseLanguage or register is the remaining gap

One transform, then a human pass on names and numbers. That is faster than asking the model to “make it perfect.”

YouTube and other long audio

When the source is already recorded, Smart Notes still helps if you need text you can search and reshape.

  1. Transcribe the YouTube video (or drop in your own recording).
  2. Run Short Summary first to see whether the content is worth a deeper pass.
  3. Use Meeting Notes or Podcast Notes when you need structure, not a blog rewrite.
  4. Export only after you have fixed proper nouns the model will not know.

Transcription quality still depends on the audio. Quiet speech and clear speakers beat any transform menu.

Exports, sync, and engines

Notes are meant to leave the app when the work moves on.

  • Export to MD, PDF, RTF, HTML, DOCX, or TXT.
  • Auto-save and sync across Apple devices signed into the same account path the app uses.
  • Pick the transcription engine in settings. Cloud options include Legacy, Supernova, and Wizper. On-Device is English-only and keeps that step on the phone.

If a note holds client names or medical detail, set the engine before you hit record. Changing it afterward does not rewind what already left the device.

A workflow that sticks

  1. Record the messy version while the thought is fresh. Do not narrate punctuation.
  2. Transcribe immediately so you are not sitting on a pile of unlabeled audio.
  3. Choose one transform that matches the next share: summary for yourself, meeting notes for the team, to-do list for tomorrow.
  4. Fix names, dates, and numbers by hand.
  5. Export or paste into the place people will actually read it.

Keyboard voice typing is still better for short replies in other apps. Smart Notes is for artifacts you want to keep, reshape, and export.

FAQ

Is Smart Notes the same as the keyboard?

No. Smart Notes is the notes tab in the Auri app. The keyboard inserts text into other apps. Use Notes when the artifact should live in Auri; use the keyboard when the artifact should land in Mail or Slack.

What can I turn a transcript into?

Clean Up & Format, Short Summary, Detailed Summary, Meeting Notes, Podcast Notes, Brain Dump Notes, To-Do List, College Essay, Blog Post, Translate, and Paraphrase. Pick one transform per pass.

Does transcription stay on my phone?

Cloud engines are the usual default. Switch the transcription engine to On-Device (English only) when you want keyboard dictation, Smart Notes recordings, and note dictation to stay on the device.

Can Smart Notes transcribe YouTube?

Yes. YouTube video transcription is supported so you can pull a video into text, then run the same transforms you use on voice memos.

What export formats work?

Markdown notes can export to MD, PDF, RTF, HTML, DOCX, and TXT. Notes auto-save and sync across your Apple devices.
